Fostering Food Security in East Africa
My Story
I am originally from Madras, India, and moved to the US to pursue my undergraduate studies here. Through theHumanitarian Engineering and Social Entrepreneurship Program, I have had the opportunityto travel to East Africa once already, and I will be returning there thissummer to continue working on a social venture that hopes to foster foodsecurity amidst East African farmers facing the food security crisis. I will beworking with a team of students to develop and host a workshop series thatteaches entrepreneurs, educators, non-profit representatives and communitydevelopment entities how to build these affordable greenhouses that cost atenth of the market price presently available in Kenya, but helps augment thefarmer's income by 1.5 times.
